Sequential Skills Development Series (SSDS) in the English Language Arts

(A diagnostic-prescriptive approach to language skills development- levels Pre-K - 13 and Adult and Continuing Education.)

Language is the basis of our uniqueness and the essence of our culture.  Spoken or written, language is used to transfer experiences, ideas, impressions, feelings, facts and/or truths from one or more persons to others.  This is accomplished through the language arts of reading, writing, listening, speaking and literary knowledge and appreciation.

Your child's language skills -- reading, writing, listening, speaking and literature awareness and appreciation -- should develop sequentially throughout their entire educational experience.

The results of tests administered locally and nationally, however, indicate that large numbers of students on the elementary and secondary levels do not read and write well enough to succeed in their general studies or in non-school activities requiring those language skills.  These test results are confirmed by reports from teachers, administrators, parents and employers.

Students who do not have adequate language skills have severe difficulty in all other parts of the school program.  This difficulty is compounded if, in addition, the child does not speak or understand English.
